“I was 9st 10lbs when I got married, but just before the birth of my daughter four years ago I had ballooned up to 19 stone. My family were concerned about the effects on my long term health.

 

I decided to go back to work just over a year ago, so to make it easier I learned to drive. I also decided it was time to take notice of what my family were saying and make a real effort to lose weight. I saw the doctor, was given an eating plan and medication to reduce my appetite. Whenever I felt tempted to snack on chocolate, I thought of how I wanted to look for the summer and that was enough to stop me. But I decided never to deny myself the things I love, like chocolate or crisps. But instead of having them every day, I started having them every other day. Then I cut back to every third day.

 

Whenever I crave chocolate, I know I will have some in a day or two which is enough to stop the craving.  If you say ‘never’, your mind plays tricks with you and you tell yourself you’ve got to have it now.

After eight months, I’ve lost 31 kilos (nearly 5 stone) and I feel great. My daughter is nearly five years old and she weighs less than that – it’s like I’ve been carrying her around my middle all this time!

 

My work takes me to different terminals at Heathrow and I recently returned to Terminal 4 for the first time in months – my colleagues did not recognise me!

 

Have a look at my ‘before’ and ‘after’ photos – I’ve achieved this gradually, at around 2 pounds per week. That means I know its sustainable and I won’t pile it all on again – I’ve seen that happen to my friends when they’ve gone on starvation diets of soups and shakes. Top Research Group Proves Our Methods Work

This new approach has been endorsed by the latest research from the Cochrane Collaboration, released on 18th July 2007. The research studied 202 patients, some of whom were given a low GI diet while others remained on a standard eating plan. Here are the authors’ key findings:

 

“The overweight or obese people on the low GI diet lost more weight than those receiving standard diets.

 

Body mass index and cholesterol decreased significantly more in the low GI group.

 

In comparing low GI diets to restricted calorie low-fat diets, participants fared as well or better on the low GI diet, even though they could eat as much as desired. Lowering the glycaemic load of the diet appears to be an effective method of promoting weight loss and can be simply incorporated into a person's lifestyle.”
